Pilates Mat Classes:
Prenatal Pilates (currently only available in private
and semi-private setting)
This unique course is a breathing and exercise mat program
influenced by the movement fundamentals of the Pilates method
and prenatal exercise, nutrition and mothering wisdom. Discover
how easily Pilates fundamentals combine with prenatal fitness
advice and recommendations from ACOG.
This mat course also helps women prepare physically for childbirth,
delivery and beyond, but should not be used in place of a
Childbirth Preparation Course!
We will focus on pelvic floor strengthening which helps with
childbirth and bladder control; deep abdominal conditioning
of the transverse abdominal muscles, which helps with pushing
during labor and a speedy recovery; breathing and relaxation
which helps with centering throughout pregnancy and during
labor; posture assessment and strengthening, which keeps you
stronger and taller as your belly grows and after birth; and
overall body conditioning and toning, which makes you stronger
during labor, keeps your body-image positive after birth and
aids in a speedier recovery.
This class is not an advanced Pilates course and incorporates
only the movement fundamentals of Pilates, not the Pilates
Mat Syllabus. The prenatal Pilates class adheres to ACOG
recommendations and integrates ideas from leading prenatal
fitness specialists.
A short discussion begins each class. Topics Include: Birthing
Folklore and Real Life Tales, Hospital Birthing Procedures,
Midwifery & Doulas, Birth Plans, Culture of Birthing,
Breastfeeding, New Mother Resources and our special Referral
List, and Heights
